FReeZA Push Start 09-10 Winners Announced
GEELONG & SHEPPARTON BANDS TAKE OUT 2010 FREEZA PUSH START AWARDS

Geelong indie rockers The Houses have been crowned FReeZA Push Start Winner for 2010 in The Push’s annual statewide band competition, and Shepparton’s 8 Bit Love took the FReeZA Push Start APRA Songwriter Award.
The bands received their awards at The Push’s annual all ages live music festival, Push Over last Sunday 7 March, 2010 at The Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne.
Representing the Barwon region, The Houses competed against eight other bands in the Grand Final.
As FReeZA Push Start Winner for 2010, The Houses receive a recording/mixing/mastering session at Hothouse Studio with Jack the Bear, 500 CD pressings including artwork assistance by Dex Audio, and feature articles with Beat Magazine and Mp3.com.au.
The Push’s FReeZA Push Start Coordinator, Andrew Kitchen, says, “The judges were blown away by the onstage charisma and unique sound and style from The Houses, and you couldn’t help but be drawn in by their dynamic live presence.”
FReeZA Push Start Judge, Anthony Bieniak, Byrneside Music says: “It was a great competition but for me, The Houses were a clear winner - Exciting well written songs, a passionate and energetic front-woman, and a really tight band. The most exciting part though was the quirkiness - they had a very new sound. I think you'll be hearing The Houses all over triple j before too long.”
The Houses’ Lucas Skinner says: "We’re all really surprised that we won because the calibre of bands we were up against was pretty great. We always have fun performing, and this prize is just an added bonus. It's definitely going to be a motivator to get another recording down and a CD out there - we wouldn't have had the money to do it otherwise."
Shepparton’s electro-rock trio 8 Bit Love were unanimously bestowed the FReeZA Push Start APRA Songwriter Award by a panel of six music industry professionals. “With the deep bass grooves of The Presets and the sing-along choruses of Bloc Party, they played their set with charisma and confidence,” explains Andrew Kitchen. “The band fuses electronic and acoustic sounds into a shape that can best be described as electronically assisted euphoria - Deserving winners from a determined band.”

FReeZA Push Start 09-10 Regional Final Wrap
A big congratulations to all of the bands that have won through to compete the Grand Final at Push Over on March 7 - the stage is set for an amazing event.
Throughout the competitioin, there were a great array of music genres and styles represented, and we can't wait to see all of these great bands perform back-to-back at Push Over Festival 2010.
Each year we're more impressed with the quality and maturity of the participating bands and this couldn't be more true with this year's finalists.
There was a marked increase in the amount of energy, stage-craft, confidence and musician-ship for all of the competing bands - and this year was the first year that we gave a band 58/60!
Thank you to ALL of the 276 band that competed this year! We hope that your involvement in FReeZA Push Start has given you the impetus to rehearse harder, sing stronger, play your instruments tighter and write better and more original song.
Here's the all-important list of FReeZA Push Start Regional Final Winners that will be playing at the Grand Final at Push Over Festival 2010. Get along to support your favourite bands!
Congratulations to:
8 Bit Love (Northern Country)

Ayera (Hume)
Barking Sparrows (Mallee Wimmera)
Masketta Fall (Western Metropolitan)
Sheer Abandon (Eastern Metropolitan)
The Cactus Channel (Northern Metropolitan)
The Houses (Barwon South West)
Vixia (Southern Metropolitan)
Other bands that deserve a special mention are:
The Thieving Gypsies - a band that blended sounds of The Tea Party, Soundgarden, The Grateful Dead and The Doors! Great work lads.
The Boo Hoo Hoo's - a great pop band that paid special attention to space and groove. Very easy 'indie' listening.
Rosetta Stone - a great goth-metal band that were incredibly busy musically, but were "oh so tight". Well done guys.
Orpheus - a fantastic metal band with the right look, sound, vibe, vocals, fanbase, gear, connections etc ... watch this space.
Jasmine Eyes - a very enjoyable pop band with character, spunk, melody and attitude. Excellent band.
May April March in August - a solid and interesting hardcore band that had more energy than the Duracell factory.
Smokin' Aces - the youngest competitors I have seen for several years. Brilliant musicians, very entertaining and a tight band. ACDC would be proud.
Samson - a really interesting post-pop / indie band that writhed and cavorted their way through their captivating set.
Executor - played classic metal. And they played it really well. Excellent to watch and talented beyond their years.
The Rocking Horse - a really interesting and quirky pop/rock band that had me greatly intrigued. Really diverse musically and catchy as Hell.
All of these bands showed a great commitment to songwriting, originality, accuracy and most of all ... entertainment.
Watch these guys - greatness mingles among them.
